Form: Palm like, evergreen gymnosperm cycad. Slow growing.
Bark:
Stem/Bud: Thick stemmed cycad, often leaning with age. Suckers and branches when mature.
Leaves: Leaves arching, 30-60 in. long, pinnately compound, with up to 125 sharp, glossy green leaflets. Leaflet margins revolutw.
Fall Color:
Flower: Plants are dioecious.
Fruit: Male cones narrow and cylindrical, up to 16 in. long, brown, and hairy.. Female cones leafy, 8 in. long, loose and open, brown, hairy, bearing large naked seeds. Seeds bright orange to red, occasonally yellow, about 1.5 in. long and somewhat flattened.
Uses: One of the most commonly cultivated cycads in the world. Excellent potted plant.
Cultivated in Japan and used as a bonsai subject. Glossy leaves often cut for decorative greens.

Culture: Will tolerate moderate to heavy frosts.

Notes: Easy to transplant, and can live 50 to 100 years or more. Cycad seeds are poisonous, and this Guam disease destroys the central nervous system, leading to dementia, paralysis, and death (Mab2).
